Afterparty featured artist: Jacob Panic

A couple months ago, I was serendipitously discovering Edith Mae’s Paradise, a private music venue down in Jessup and got to see a really cool local artist perform. Jacob Panic is a local Baltimore singer, songwriter, and banjo player. His sound is a unique, contemporary mashup of classic banjo and folk roots with the rowdiness and unrest of punk and grunge. As I was listening, I thought this guy is a great representation of Baltimore.

Fortunately for you, he’s agreed to play for us at the WordCamp Baltimore afterparty on Saturday. I’m excited! —Anthony D Paul

jacob panic cover-1Jacob Panic is a singer/song-writer/banjo-artist from Maryland. After receiving a scholarship in 2013 to study with the great Pete Wernick (aka Dr. Banjo) of the group Hot Rize, Panic returned with an earnest desire to make the banjo his main instrument and focal point of his performances, which he has been doing for years in the Mid-Atlantic region. His latest recording was produced and recorded in Nashville, TN by GRAMMY award winning producer, Randy Kohrs. It features some of the regions best pickers and players including Kenny Aronoff and members of Mountain Heart.

“This has been a blast of a record to do as every song is an adventure and doesn’t sound anything like any record I’ve done before. Acoustic, college-rock-grass!” —Randy Kohrs
